Texture is Life

I’m am expressionist and I use paint and whatever materials I find to make figurative art that expresses what I observe and experience. I put a lot of texture into my art not only in terms of materials and images but ideas. I see this way of working as — collage.

What inspires me are figures and faces from photographs of friends, family, women and myself. I make paintings, prints and objets d’art of these figures putting them into fantasy backgrounds that often are made up from scanned images from magazines, Artbooks, wildlife and nature imagery, consumer packaging and advertising type and children’s literature and religious texts. I render my works with a variety of painting and drawing mediums and techniques; and will attach miniatures, clothing, buttons, jewelry and dolls, all becoming part of the story of the portrait or figure. I really like tedium and take the time to get into details and ornamentation. I look at antique master paintings, French 18th Century art and design, 1920s and 30s graphic design, David Bowie, Marie Antoinette, the Gothic and favor pinks, coppers, golds and rich blues.

And I like accessible stylish code and design. I work as a multi-media designer providing information and creative services for a Texas State agency and a few local entrepreneurs in Austin, Texas. If you are interested in web, animation and publications design services, see
